Bachelor of Laws, or LLB is sought after an undergraduate degree provided by the University of South Africa (UNISA), known across several common law jurisdictions, except the United Kingdom. UNISA  LLB program is meticulously crafted  to prepare students for the legal landscape of South Africa. Its goal is to furnish students with a robust understanding of legal fundamentals, analytical capabilities, and ethical discernment essential for thriving in the legal profession. Endorsed and accredited by the Legal Practice Council of South Africa, the UNISA LLB program stands as a prestigious and esteemed qualification.

The LLB degree is made up of 40 modules: 37 mandatory and 3 elective. In their first year of enrollment, students must study Introduction to Law (ILW1501) and Skills Course for Law Students (SCL1501).


Unisa LLB Application Date 2025-2026

The Unisa Application for Admission to Undergraduate qualifications i.e., higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas & degrees starts from 19 August to 11 October.  Unisa can open applications for qualifications where there is available space.

Again, the application portal opens for Masters & Doctoral qualifications from 2 September to 22 November.

Kindly note that all applications for admission to Unisa for the 2025-2026 academic year must be submitted online. There will be no self-help stations available for applications at the regional offices. Application for Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you meet the admission requirements and if there is space available.

Admission to Unіѕа is depends оn уоu meeting the specific admission requirements for уоur сhоѕеn ԛuаlіfісаtіоn.

  • A Nаtіоnаl Sеnіоr Cеrtіfісаtе (NSC) (Dеgrее endorsement) with аt lеаѕt 50% in thе language оf teaching аnd lеаrnіng
  • a Sеnіоr Cеrtіfісаtе (SC) wіth matriculation еxеmрtіоn оr ԛuаlіfу fоr the exemption frоm the Mаtrісulаtіоn Bоаrd wіth аt least a D ѕуmbоl оn HG оr a C symbol оn SG іn thе lаnguаgе оf tеасhіng аnd learning.
  • a Diploma or
    • a Hіghеr Certificate.
      Candidates who do not meet the requirements should explore the option of applying for the Diploma or the Higher Certificate programs, provided they fulfil the legal and additional criteria for those qualifications.

Prior to submitting your application to Unisa, make sure that you satisfy both the admission criteria for your chosen program and the eligibility standards set by the institution. To finish your application online at Unisa, follow the steps outlined below:

  • Log in to the official website of UNISA
  • On the registration portal and click on ” Apply for Admission
  • Click On “Apply Now”
  • Complete the application form with the required information
  • Upload certified copies of supporting documents
  • Make payment of your non-refundable application fee of R125.00
  • Review your application to ensure that your application is complete
  • Submit your application before the closing date.

Hence, candidates are allowed to register only upon official confirmation from Unisa verifying the acceptance of their admission application. In the event of an invalid admission to qualification, Unisa retains the authority to turn down processing or revoke registration. The possibility of enrolling is an alternative qualification and is not assured; it is linked on your compliance with admissions criteria and availability of space.  Students who are re-registering for the 2025 academic year can do so whenever the registration period opens.
