How to Register with Unisa for the 2026-2027 Academic Year:
Registering with Unisa refers to enrolling as a student at the University of South Africa, Africa’s biggest open-distance learning school. Once accepted, you must enrol for the modules (courses) that comprise your selected qualification. Unisa usually has two registration periods every academic year, allowing you to select the courses you want to study each semester. Choose your modules carefully depending on your programme needs and personal interests. Applicants, including new and returning Unisa students applying for a new qualification, may only register after receiving and accepting an offer of placement online, with Unisa reserving the right to cancel or not process registration if admission is incorrect. While re-registering, students must enrol during the designated 2025 registration period.
Prospective students must prepare essential documents, including certified copies of identification, academic transcripts, and relevant certificates, ensuring they meet specific admission requirements pertinent to their chosen program. Unisa’s commitment to accessible education emphasises the importance of early and accurate registration to secure admission. Additionally, the institution offers comprehensive support services throughout the application and registration stages, helping students to navigate administrative procedures effectively. Payment of a non-refundable application fee is required to complete the registration application.
During the registration period, registrants who register for between 4 to 6 modules are to pay a registration fee of R1 815,00 and R7 550,00 per module (these amounts are subject to change) per year. The module costs do not include your prescribed books. Books are an additional cost that you must factor into your calculations for your full costs of study.
Once registered, students unlock access to Unisa’s online learning platforms, study materials, and various academic resources designed to support distance education success. Understanding the registration timelines and requirements is crucial, as missing deadlines may delay a student’s academic progress. Unisa continuously updates its online portals to streamline the registration experience, making it user-friendly for first-time applicants and returning students alike. The registration process not only reflects Unisa’s dedication to educational inclusivity but also reinforces its role as a pioneer in Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) in Africa. By registering with Unisa for 2026-2027, students position themselves to benefit from internationally recognised qualifications delivered through an innovative and flexible learning environment.
