• The maximum credit load per academic year is 120 credits, with a semester limit of 60 credits to ensure manageable study loads.
• Exemptions for modules passed more than ten years ago are not automatically granted and require a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application with supporting documentation

Who Can Register For LLB With Unisa 2026-2027

• Applicants: (new applicants & Unisa students who applied for admission to a new qualification) may only register if they have received an offer of placement from Unisa and have accepted the offer online. Unisa reserves the right not to process and/or cancel your registration if it is found that you were incorrectly admitted to a qualification.
• Re-registering students: may register for the 2025 academic year once the registration period opens.

LLB With Unisa Admission Requirements 2026-2027

Your admission to Unisa depends on your meeting the specific admission requirements for your selected qualification. To apply for LLB with Unisa, have either of the following:

• A National Senior Certificate (NSC) (Degree endorsement) in the language of teaching and learning with at least 50%.
• A Senior Certificate (SC) with matriculation exemption or qualifies for the exemption from the Matriculation Board with at least a D symbol on HG or a C symbol on SG in the language of teaching and learning.
• A Diploma.
• A Higher Certificate.

Applicants who do not meet the standards set out above should consider applying for a diploma or higher certificate for which they comply with the legislative requirements.

• Applications for admission to undergraduate qualifications, including the LLB, for the 2025 academic year open from 14 April to 9 May 2025, with similar timelines expected for 2026-2027.

Second level:

Students who have passed CIP2601 will retain credit for the module, but must refer to the rules at
the 3rd level about CIP3701.

Students who have passed CMP2601 will retain credit for the module, but must refer to the rules at the 3rd level about CMP3701. It is strongly recommended that modules be registered in the following order on the 2nd level:

How To Choose LLB With Unisa 2026-2027

Each Unisa qualification is structured in such a way that you need to pass a certain number of NQF-level credits within a certain amount of time to graduate.

• Co-requisite: Module A is a co-requisite for Module B. You want to register for Module B but have not yet passed Module A. You must then register for both Modules A and B simultaneously. You may NOT cancel your registration for Module A unless Module B is also cancelled.
• Pre-requisite: If Module A is a prerequisite for Module B, you must pass Module A before you may register for Module B.

You may not register for more than the allowed maximum number of credits/modules per academic year and/or semester: 60 credits per semester or 120 credits per academic year.

The maximum number of credits does not include supplementary and/or aegrotat examinations from a previous semester. Modules taken for non-degree / non-diploma purposes also count towards the maximum number of credits allowed.

You must consider your available time when choosing your modules, as this will impact your academic performance. You need approximately

• 6 to 8 hours per week for semester modules.
• 4 to 6 hours per week for the year’s modules.

Additional Considerations

• UNISA’s LLB is designed as a “generic” qualification, meaning it sets minimum standards for outcomes but allows curriculum innovation.
• Students who have completed phased-out modules retain their credits and do not need to retake replacement modules, though equivalence is not guaranteed.
• Distance learning delivery enables students across South Africa and internationally to access quality legal education without relocating
