For the 2027 academic year, postgraduate applications are expected to open in August or September 2026 and close around November or December 2026. However, Unisa has also announced a limited re-opening window for selected honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas from 3 to 17 June 2026. If your chosen qualification is on that limited list, this June window is your earliest chance to apply.
Everyone starting a new qualification must submit an online application. This includes first-time Unisa applicants, current Unisa students wanting to change their qualification or specialisation, and final-year undergraduates aiming to continue with postgraduate studies. All applications are strictly online. No self-help stations will be available at regional offices, so prepare your documents and internet access in advance.
Admission is not automatic. Unisa will assess whether you meet the specific admission requirements for your chosen programme and if space is available. Only complete applications will be processed. That means you must pay the non-refundable R150 application fee, where applicable, and successfully upload all required supporting documents before the deadline.
If you studied outside South Africa, your qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. You can still apply without the SAQA certificate of evaluation. If you are accepted for 2027, you will be allowed to register during the official registration period, but Unisa requires you to submit your SAQA certificate by the closing date for your qualification.

UNISA Postgraduate Online Application Date 2027
- Applications for admission to honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas for the 2027 academic year are to open from 2nd August to 18th November.
- However, Unisa has also announced a limited re-opening window for selected honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas from 3 to 17 June
All applications must be submitted before the closing date. Late applications may not be accepted for the 2027-2028 academic year.
Who Can Apply Online At UNISA for Postgraduate 2027
- Everyone wanting to start a new qualification and/or a new specialisation/stream must apply for admission.
- Applicants in their final year of study towards an undergraduate qualification must apply for admission.
Documents Required to Apply Online For Postgraduate At UNISA 2027
The following documents are required of all Postgraduate applicants for the 2027-2028 academic year:
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) stating all the years of registration, modules passed, and percentages obtained (internet copies will not be accepted).
- International students must also upload a copy of the university ledger.
- Students who obtain qualifications outside the borders of South Africa must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and upload a SAQA certificate of evaluation during the application process (https://www.saqa.org.za).
- Final-year students (excluding Unisa students) who do not yet have an official academic record indicating completion of the qualification must upload the official academic record to Unisa or submit it via e-mail to the relevant college e-mail address by 31 January
- Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
- Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans.
