NSFAS Eligibility Criteria For Unisa 2025-2026
To qualify for government funding for university and TVET college studies, Applicants must
- be South African citizens.
- register at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges.
- come from a family with an income below R350 000 per annum (combined).
Who should not apply For NSFAS at Unisa
The following are the people who are qualified to apply for Nsfas at Unisa:
- Students that have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified, and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
- Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).

All applicants must provide:
- Valid South African ID number of Applicant
- Valid South African ID number of parent(s), guardian, or spouse
- Income information where applicable.
- Students with disabilities must provide: A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (available on the website)
- Students recognized as vulnerable children must provide:
An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker (available on the website)
- Students who have indicated no family members’ details must complete the 2024 Declaration Form (available on the website)
Other documents that may be required for appeals purposes:
- Retrenchment letter,
- Death certificate/s
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate

How to Apply for Nsfas Online At UNISA 2025-2026
NSFAS bursary application must be done on the official website of NSFAS through the application portal. If you are applying online for NSFAS funding at UNISA, you can follow the steps below;
- Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
- Click on the ‘Apply’ tab to update your personal information and upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
