UNISA Application Timeline: Closing Date for the 2026 Second Semester:
The Unisa Second Semester Application 2027/2028 is a great second chance for students who missed the first semester intake or want to continue their academic journey without waiting another year. The University of South Africa (Unisa) offers flexible open distance learning, and its second semester applications give new and returning students another opportunity to apply for various qualifications.
While the main 2027 academic year applications are already outlined, the second semester window is specifically for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees, and postgraduate diplomas with semester modules. For the 2027-2028 academic year, applications for Undergraduate qualifications, Honours degrees & Postgraduate diplomas will be open from 17 August to 9 October 2026. Master’s and Doctoral qualifications will open from 1 September 2026, and Short Learning Programmes from 2 November 2026.
Information for the full 2027 academic year will be published shortly, so applicants are advised to keep checking the official Unisa website. Please note that you can only register after you have received and accepted an offer of placement from Unisa online. Unisa reserves the right to cancel your registration if you were incorrectly admitted. Once registered, every student receives a free myLife email address, which becomes the only official email for all Unisa correspondence, so activating it immediately is important.
If you are a re-registering student or want to add modules, you can do so via myUnisa. Semester 2 registration for all undergraduate qualifications, honours and postgraduate diplomas is expected to open around 29 June to 23 July 2027. Unisa Application Opening Date for 2026 Second Semester
Below is the application date for the Unisa 2027-2028 academic year;
- The online application for the academic year 2027 for undergraduate programs will be open from April and will be closed by May 2027.
- The online application for the academic year 2027 for honours and postgraduate programs will be open from April and will close by May 2027.
Documents Required To Apply Online At UNISA 2027
The following documents are required to apply for admission at UNISA:
- Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted.)
- Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
- Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
To apply for admission at Unisa for the 2027-2028 academic year, follow the steps below:
Create a MyUNISA Account:
- Visit the UNISA website and register for a MyUNISA account.
- This will allow you to access the application portal and manage your application.
Choose Your Qualification:
- Select the program or qualification you wish to apply for from the list of available courses. Check the specific admission requirements and ensure you meet them.
Complete the Application Form:
- Fill out the online application form with your details, academic history, and chosen qualifications.
- Make sure all information is accurate and complete.
Upload Required Documents:
- Submit the required documents, such as your ID, academic transcripts, and proof of any other qualifications.
- Ensure all documents are clear and meet UNISA’s requirements.
Pay the Application Fee:
- Pay the application fee of R160.00 as specified by UNISA.
- Follow the payment instructions and ensure you keep proof of payment for your records.
NB: Documents are displayed in red on the upload platform. Students who gain qualifications outside the borders of South Africa must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and upload a SAQA certificate of evaluation during the application process (https://www.saqa.org.za). Incomplete applications will not be considered.
