Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
You qualify for a NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2024 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- Must have email account and cell phone number.
What does the bursary cover?
Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:
- Accommodation
- Living allowance
- Learning material allowance
- Personal care allowance
If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:
- Tuition
- Books (subject to the number of modules registered)
- Personal care allowance
If you are eligible student with disability, you will receive funding for:
- Assistive Devices
- Meals
- Tuition
- Transport
- Tuition
- Human Support
- Accommodation
What are the required documents?
- Copy of student ID / Birth certificate
- Copy of parent/s or guardian/ spouse ID
- Smart card: both sides of card required
- Proof of income (where applicable)
- Persons living with disability (Disability Annexure A form)
- An applicant who is recognised as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and
- Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker
- An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details and or abridged birth certificate must complete the Declaration: Non-SASSA
Based on the application type, the system will generate a list of required documents for upload. We do not accept any affidavits or drivers license as proof of ID.

- Yes! All higher certificates applicants can apply for NSFAS 2024

YOU CAN APPLY FOR NSFAS 2024 ONLINE VIA WWW.NSFAS.ORG.ZA WITH A CELLPHONE, TABLET AND COMPUTER. FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS TO APPLY:
- Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the “myNSFAS” tab.
- Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
- Step 3: Click on the “APPLY” tab and complete the sections on the screen
- Step 4: Upload required supporting documents where applicable
- Step 5: Click on “Submit”
If you do not have a digital devise or access to the internet, do not stress, simply pop into your nearest National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) or Thusong Centre to apply following the same steps.
