Who Can Apply For NSFAS At UNISA
You can apply for NSFAS if you meet the eligibility requirements for the scheme. To qualify you must be:
- South African citizens.
- register at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges.
- come from a family with an income below R350 000 per annum (combined).
Who should not apply
You shouldn’t apply if:
- Students that have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified, and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
- Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).

An applicant who is recognized as a vulnerable child by the Department of Social Development must provide and Vulnerable Child Declaration form completed by a social worker (available on the website)
- Students who have indicated no family members’ details must complete the 2024 Declaration Form (available on the website)

NSFAS bursary application must be done on the official website of NSFAS through the application portal. If you are applying online for NSFAS funding at UNISA, you can follow the steps below;
- Create a myNSFAS account via this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za/ or download the NSFAS App on Google Play or App Store. Your ID number will be your username.
