If you want to start studying in 2027, now is the time to act. Applications for undergraduate qualifications and honours degrees for the 2027 academic year are officially open from 17 August to 9 October 2026. The same window applies to postgraduate diplomas. A non-refundable application fee of R160 is required for all new applications. For those eyeing the 2028 academic year, applications are expected to follow the same pattern and open around August 2027.
Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply; this includes first-time applicants and current Unisa students changing to a new qualification or specialisation. If you are completing a higher certificate and want to continue with undergraduate studies, you must apply. You must also re-apply if you previously received an offer but did not accept it or register. Students planning to enrol at a TVET college under the Unisa-TVET agreement must also apply for admission.
Applications for master’s and doctoral qualifications open on 1 September 2026, while Short Learning Programmes open on 2 November 2026. Don’t miss your chance to prepare your documents and apply early for Unisa 2027-2028.

The following documents are required to apply for admission at UNISA;
- Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
- Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (international students)
- Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans

- Apply for admission.
- Upload the compulsory supporting documents.
NB: Documents are displayed in red on the upload platform. Students who gain qualifications outside the borders of South Africa must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and upload a SAQA certificate of evaluation during the application process (https://www.saqa.org.za). Incomplete applications will not be considered.
