Unisa Registration Account Number Guide for New and Returning Students:

Understanding your Unisa registration account number is the most important step to ensuring your study fees are allocated quickly and your application or registration is finalised without issues. The University of South Africa (Unisa) uses a specific payment referencing system for all student transactions, and getting it wrong is one of the most common reasons for payment delays.

Every payment you make to Unisa must include your unique 8-digit student number as the reference. To direct funds correctly, you also need to add a space followed by your specific allocation code. For example: 12345678 5400374721. This format tells Unisa exactly who is paying and what the payment is for, whether it is application fees, registration, or study materials.

Incorrect or incomplete reference details mean your payment cannot be processed automatically. As Unisa notes, the university will not be held liable for delays caused by wrong banking details, and funds can take 2 to 10 working days to reflect even when everything is correct.

For your convenience, Unisa provides several secure payment channels, including EFT, bank deposits at First National Bank (FNB) and ABSA Bank branches, and online payment options. However, it is critical to note that Unisa does not accept cash or cheques at any of its offices and does not provide cashier services. All payments must go through official bank or online channels.

If you are paying via bank deposit slip, double-check that all fields are completed accurately. Any missing or incorrect information will result in the bank not processing the transaction, or Unisa being unable to allocate the funds to your study fees account. The Unisa registration account number is 5400374721 for study fees.

Important Notes for Students

  • Unisa does not accept cash payments at its offices; all payments must be made through banks.
  • Incorrect or incomplete payment references can cause delays in processing and allocation of funds.
  • Refunds are generally not processed for credit balances less than R100.00.
  • If a payment is made into the wrong account, students should immediately send proof of payment and their student number to Unisa’s finance department via email for correction.
