UNISA Library: Your Gateway to Academic Success:
The Unisa Library is the official library of the University of South Africa, one of the largest distance-learning institutions in Africa. It provides access to a vast collection of academic resources, including books, journals, databases, and digital materials, to support the research and study needs of students, faculty, and staff.
The Library, which was founded in 1873, has a long and illustrious history. Initially named the Public Library and National Museum, it has grown through time to become one of Africa’s largest academic libraries. It has constantly evolved to suit the changing demands of a swiftly evolving academic environment as it has grown.
The Unisa Library’s principal objective is to help the university’s teaching, learning, and research activities by offering access to a diverse array of information resources and services. It is important to create an environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and academic exploration.
When Unisa launched remote learning as a style of instruction in 1946, it gave birth to the Unisa Library and Information Services. The previous 50 years have seen a remarkable increase, with the printed book collection presently totaling more than 2.7 million volumes.
Unisa has access to an expanding variety of electronic information resources, such as databases, e-journals, and e-books. These are available online 24/7 to enrolled Unisa students and staff, regardless of geographical location.
Unisa Library and Information Services is a signatory to the Berlin Open Access Declaration and strives to make information resources accessible to everybody. The following open-access digital collections are available from us:
