The UNISA College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) is a leading institution dedicated to developing world-class, futuristic African leaders in science, engineering, and technology. Located at the UNISA Science Campus in Florida, Johannesburg, CSET provides an enabling environment for advancing knowledge that is nationally responsive and globally relevant. The college is structured into three schools: the School of Science, the School of Engineering, and the School of Computing, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, including diplomas, degrees, honours, master’s, and doctoral programs.
CSET’s programs are designed to meet rigorous standards, with many accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional practice. The college also offers higher certificates in Mathematics, Statistics, and Physical Sciences to broaden access to STEM fields. Research is a cornerstone of CSET, with top-rated researchers and specialised institutes focusing on nanotechnology, energy, water sustainability, and augmented intelligence, contributing to innovative solutions for Africa’s challenges.
In 2022, UNISA’s engineering programs were ranked joint first in South Africa by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, highlighting the college’s excellence. State-of-the-art laboratories and high-end equipment support hands-on learning and research, fostering skills in scarce STEMI (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation) areas. CSET also emphasises community engagement and knowledge sharing with global partners, preparing students to be problem-solving citizens who can contribute to Africa’s development through innovative technology.
