How to Study at UNISA Without a Matric Qualification:

Matric courses, also known as matriculation courses are subjects and programs that are part of the final year of high school education, usually in Grade 12. These courses are designed to prepare students for the matric exams, which are required for completing high school and gaining entry to higher education institutions. In South Africa, for instance, these courses are part of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) curriculum.

If you are interested in studying at Unisa without you needing a matric then you are in the right place because there are certain courses at Unisa which one does not require a matric before studying. People think that without a matric certificate, it is impossible to study further or get a decent career. But academically matric is a qualification on NQF level 4 and is accredited on NQF level 4.

These courses don’t give you a matric certificate but they will give you accreditation and recognized alternative qualifications that can be used to study up to NQF level 6. Matric does not prepare you for a specific job but it is just an entry requirement to further studies.

However, there are some few courses, which does not require matric as an entry to further studies. One can start these courses without having a matric certificate. The entry requirement for such courses or qualifications is that you must be older than 16 and that you must have completed Grade 10. Since these courses offered are in English,  you must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.

What Are The Common Matric Courses

Common Matric Courses Include:

• Mathematics: A core subject covering algebra, calculus, geometry, and statistics.
• English: Focuses on language, literature, and writing skills.
• Science: Includes subjects like Physical Science (physics and chemistry) or Life Science (biology).

  Workshop in Nutrition and Food Safety: No admission requirements.
  Short Course in Basic Financial Life Skills: No admission requirements.
